Introduction / History

The Ladino Dolomite people are an ethnic minority in Italy that speaks the Ladin language. It is a vulgarized Latin-based language, which originated with Roman soldiers stationed on the outpost of northern Italy. It remains in the Dolomite Mountains of northern Italy.

What Are Their Lives Like?

With the goal of keeping their language, and thus their culture alive, the Dolomites want their language to have official recognition. They are teaching Ladino in schools and using in their social lives. There is also some Ladino literature and a newspaper in their language.
Though they have a rural past and there is some agriculture in their region, the Dolomites mainly work in manufacturing, quarrying and tourism.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Like other local ethnic groups in Italy the Dolomites are Roman Catholic. The church is the place to be married and buried, but it has little impact on their daily lives. Most hold a secular mindset.

What Are Their Needs?

The Dolomite people need to put Jesus Christ first in their spiritual lives, looking to him for guidance and comfort.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Holy Spirit to move mightily in Italy’s Roman Catholic Church, leading many Dolomite people to a closer walk with the only Savior.
Pray for Dolomite people who love the Lord to disciple others in his ways.
Pray for the Lord to draw Dolomite leaders into his kingdom.

Scripture Prayers for the Dolomite, Ladino in Italy.
